According to preliminary results of the all-Russia census [held 9-16 October],
the population of the Siberian Federal District is about 19.5m, of whom
more than 13.8m live in towns and cities.
Four regions in the Siberian Federal District have more than 2.5m residents
each, the Novosibirsk regional statistics directorate has said. They are
Kemerovo Region (slightly over 2.85m), Krasnoyarsk Territory (about 2.8m),
Novosibirsk Region (over 2.6m) and Altay Territory (nearly 2.6m).
There are two cities having more than million of residents each - Novosibirsk
(almost 1.375m) and Omsk (about 1.2m), as well as four cities whose population
exceeds 500,000 - Krasnoyarsk (almost 880,000), Barnaul (about 660,000),
Irkutsk (570,000) and Kemerovo (520,000)...
